Echo 550 Acoustic Liquid Handler Obsolescence, Discontinuance and Trade-In FAQs
Background
Why did Beckman Coulter Life Sciences obsolete the Echo 550 series and discontinue the ATS platform of Acoustic Liquid Handlers?
The Echo 650 series Liquid Handlers (Echo 650, 655, 650T, 655T, and 21 CFR Part 11 enabled versions) are the natural successors to the Echo 550 series Liquid Handlers (Echo 550, 555, and 21 CFR Part 11 enabled versions). The Echo 550 series is part of the first generation of acoustic liquid handling and entered obsolescence effective March 1, 2021, at which point sales for those models ended. More information can be found on our Echo 650 series page.
The ATS platform of acoustic liquid handlers was obsoleted by EDC Biosystems in 2019 and discontinued by Beckman Coulter Life Sciences in 2022. The ATS platform of acoustic liquid handlers, including Gen 4, Gen 4+, and Gen 5 as well as the Tube Dowser instruments were obsoleted in 2019 and entered a period of best-faith effort for service/support which ended effective October 1, 2022.
We’re proud of the role both of these platforms have played in revolutionizing drug discovery and other workflows. The Echo 650 series meets all major specifications found in the Echo 550 series, and also provides additional features. It’s drop-in ready for your acoustic liquid handling workflows.
